Welcome students to the exciting world of uncovering the unknowns. This course in Analytical Chemistry is designed to train you as a bench chemist. You will have to prepare samples for analysis, conduct an analysis of an unknown amount of a known analyte and report the results with a high degree of precision and accuracy. Because of the statistical nature of data treatment, several early lectures will either introduce you to or review you in elementary statistics.

Exam and Labs - Week of Sept 12    Posted: Sep 13, 2005
The 1st exam will be given Thursday morning. The test will cover materials found in chapters 1-3 inclusively. We will not begin a new lab this week. Tuesday and Wednesday lab periods will be spent in the computer labs learning to prepare spread sheets.

Course Description
Analytical chemistry involves the separating, indentifying, and determining the relative amounts of the components in a sample of matter. Qualitative analysis reveals the chemical identity of the species in the sample. Quantitative analysis establishes the relative amount of one or more of these species.
